In partnership with the European Apparel and Textile Confederation (Euratex), a brand-new international non-profit organisation known as ReHubs Europe has been established with the mission of increasing the recycling of textiles. Its objective is to establish a synergistic collective in Europe that will upcycle waste textiles and industrially scale up the gathering, sorting, processing, and recycling of pre-consumer and post-consumer materials. This will be accomplished via recycling hubs across Europe.

Euratex said that the debut followed “three years of intense preparation” and a “techno-economic study” that analysed the business case, cost, and environmental advantages. The announcement of the launch was made almost exactly three years ago. This effort by ReHubs Europe is a reaction to forthcoming EU legislation that demands the obligatory collection and sorting of textile waste by the year 2025. The regulation is expected to take effect that year. In order for the textile industry to be in compliance with these legislative standards, it is necessary for the industry to substantially enhance its capacity for recycling and to encourage cooperation among the many actors that comprise the value chain. Key actors within the textile value chain, such as manufacturers, brands, collectors and recyclers, chemical firms, and technology suppliers, will convene at ReHubs Europe.

The major objective of ReHubs Europe is to bring together important players from throughout the whole textile value chain. These key stakeholders include textile producers, fashion brands, collectors, recyclers, representatives from the chemical sector, and technology suppliers.
