The textile ministry issues QCOs for textiles used in agriculture and medicine.

Following the proper procedure for notification of Technical Regulations, which included stakeholder consultation and legal vetting, among other things, according to DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Textiles announced the launch of 02 Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for 06 items of Medical textiles and 20 items of Agro-textiles and in the Phase-II.

Medical textiles QCO cover a wide range of supplies required for cleanliness and medical care. This QCO includes a variety of commodities, including sanitary napkins, medical textiles-bed sheets and pillowcases, medical textiles-shoe covers, medical textiles-dental bib/napkins, disposable baby diapers, reusable sanitary pads, sanitary napkins, and period panties.

Notably, the Ministry of Textiles has exempted Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from the Meditech QCOs, encouraging small-scale production of needs such diapers for infants and women, as well as reusable sanitary pads, sanitary napkins and period pants.

The conformity assessment requirements mentioned in these QCOs must be followed by both domestic and foreign producers who wish to export their goods to India. The Indian government considers it essential for the general public’s welfare to raise the standard and quality of agrotextiles and medicaltextiles.

On April 1st, 2024, the Agrotextiles QCO will come into force. The agricultural community highly values this QCO, which seeks to enhance the effectiveness and quality of the Agro textiles.
