In June 2023, China’s imports of coarse animal hair will reach $1.5 million.

China Coarse Animal Hair Imports 

When compared to May 2023 numbers, the volume of coarse animal hair imported into China increased by 136% to 1.4K tonnes in June 2023. But overall imports experienced a little decline. The fastest rate of growth was seen in January 2023, when imports rose by 172% month over month.

In June 2023, IndexBox expects that imports of coarse animal hair increased to $1.5M in value. However, imports over the examined period displayed a comparatively flat trend pattern. The rate of growth was most noticeable in January 2023, when there was a 390% increase over the prior month.

Imports by Country

With a 33% share of all imports in June 2023, Kazakhstan (469 tonnes) was China’s leading provider of coarse animal hair. Furthermore, imports of coarse animal hair from Kazakhstan were twice as much as those from Uzbekistan, the second-largest provider (219 tonnes). Turkmenistan (171 tonnes), which accounted for 12% of all imports, came in third place.

The average monthly growth rate of volume from Kazakhstan from June 2022 to June 2023 was -2.5%. The average monthly rates of import growth for the remaining providing nations were as follows: Uzbekistan (-4.8%) and Turkmenistan (-5.4%).

Mongolia ($436K), which supplied 30% of China’s total imports of coarse animal hair, was the greatest provider in terms of value. With a 13% share of all imports, Turkmenistan ($188K) came in second place overall. Afghanistan came in second with a 12% share.

The average monthly growth rate of value from Mongolia from June 2022 to June 2023 was +1.5%. The average monthly rates of import growth for the remaining suppliers were Turkmenistan (-5.5%) and Afghanistan (+24.7%) respectively.

Import Prices by Country 

The price of coarse animal hair was $1,036 per tonne (CIF, China) in June 2023, down -30.1% from the previous month. However, the import price generally showed a rather flat trend pattern. The growth rate accelerated to an 80% m-o-m increase in January 2023. From April 2023 through June 2023, import prices stayed at a lower level. The import price peaked at $3,805 per tonne in March 2023.

The primary providing nations’ average pricing varied significantly from one another. Mongolia had the highest price in June 2023 ($4,518 per tonne), while Kazakhstan had some of the lowest prices ($367 per tonne).

Afghanistan (+6.5%) witnessed the highest rate of price growth between June 2022 and June 2023, while the prices of the other main suppliers grew at more moderate rates.
