India becoming a net toy exporter is primarily due to increased protectionism and less—possibly—as a result of growing indigenous capabilities.

In 2020–2021 and 2021–2022, India will become a net exporter of toys, breaking decades of import domination. According to government data, between 2018–19 and 2021–22, toy exports rose from $109 million (812,000) to $177 million (1,237,000,000), while imports fell from $371 million (2,593,000) to $110 million (819,000,000). These facts cannot be disputed. Mirror images of trade data from corresponding importing or exporting countries can be used to cross-verify them.
