MANCHESTER – A petition has been launched by the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW) urging the UK Government to introduce new laws that will protect retail employees from harassment, intimidation, and misconduct.

USDAW says these events have only risen after the lifting of the lockout and that it can rely on “important facts” to support its allegations that retail employees experience daily violence while doing their job.

USDAW Secretary-General Paddy Lillis said: “I advise the government not to ignore my petition but to listen to the demands of shop staff and employers by legislating for stricter punishments for those who attack employees. They have spoken of zero tolerance, but that means very little unless it is backed up by solid acts
